“Meet Joker”

Last week, we got our first glimpse of Joaquin Phoenix as “Arthur”, the man who would become The Joker in next year's Joker film directed by Todd Phillips. Was it underwhelming? You bet. But it did help set expectations for what type of film Phoenix and Phillips would be creating, even though it was a bummer that we didn't get to see Phoenix all done up as the Clown Prince of Crime.

Until this weekend, that is.

“Gunns and Roses”

I try to keep this column a “politics-free zone”, mainly because there's so many awful things out in the world lately that I like to think of this column as an escape. But with the recent firing of James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, I feel like I need to put my two cents in. Were Gunn's tweets, which, while written ten years ago, offensive and unfunny? Absolutely. But his firing for his past actions sets a dangerous precedent for not only Hollywood, but our modern culture as well.

“Call The Four”

This week marks a pretty big occasion: the return of the Fantastic Four to comic stands. The lack of a FF title on the shelves has been felt for the past few years, and while The Thing/Human Torch lead Marvel Two-In-One series has been plenty entertaining, it still wasn't the same. We need the Fantastic Four back on our pull lists, scanning the galaxy and beyond for threats to the universe, and it's definitely a welcome treat to have them back where they belong.
